Integrated Farm Planning Project

The Guardians were successful in receiving funding via MPI to progress on Farm planning.

In December 2022 the Guardians of the Ruakituri Executive interviewed possible providers who would project manage this kaupapa, manage the requirements of the contract with MPI including producing the Milestone reports and facilitate the programme over the term of the project.

AgFirst Gisborne was appointed to this role early in the new year. Unfortunately, the challenges delivered by Cyclone Gabrielle on February 14 delayed the start but Milestones 1 & 2 had been achieved to allow the Project to be presented to the community on 20th July 23.

The IFP project was formally launched with the community on 20 July 2023. A wonderful formal lunch and Keynote address from David Todd were highlights from the occasion. Please see the Blog page about this event.

Integrated Farm Plans close-out Summary:

Over the four years of this project, the Guardians have progressed toward meeting the aim of having high-quality Integrated Farm Plans that are active and useful for those making decisions on farm. The project has remained nimble and was able to pivot as a result of a project deviation being accepted by MPI to better deliver useful workable plans for our farmers. We remain very grateful to the staff at the Ministry for Primary Industries for their ongoing support. During this project, the valley farmers have endured some unprecedented challenges with limited road access for the past 3 years, which resulted in difficulties in managing stock and station activities and recovery from disasters. This project has continued strongly as a result of the outstanding work and dogged determination of Shanna Cairns, Peter Manson and later Erica Whalley – what a team! We remain indebted to this AgFirst crew, who have navigated the complexities of our isolated rural community with enthusiasm and compassion. Thank you.
